Demonic Doctrines

We often think of demonic activity as being grossly obvious and shocking, such as heroin addiction or the impulse to brutalize children – and that is true, but is on the extreme un-hidden end of the spectrum. The demonic forces Jesus confronted that were the easiest to route were this more obvious kind. The hardest demons to route were the ones who through the fears and self-justifying pride of human hearts had capitalized on the Scriptures to create a system of religion which effectively chokes out spiritual life. I’m talking about the sins of the most devoted and zealous of people.

Now the Holy Spirit tells us clearly that in the last times some will turn away from the true faith; they will follow deceptive spirits and teachings that come from demons. These people are hypocrites and liars, and their consciences are dead. They will say it is wrong to be married and wrong to eat certain foods. But God created those foods to be eaten with thanks by faithful people who know the truth. Since everything God created is good, we should not reject any of it but receive it with thanks.
