Focus

Posted: January 22, 2012 in Theology

Lots of pastors have a reading list that is too broad to actually assimilate the truths they read into practice. We read and nod our heads, “yes, that’s right.” Then we close the book and walk away unchanged. If you want be familiar with a broad range of skills, but master of none, keep it up genius. But if you want to actually incorporate depth into your soul, you need to focus. If you want to deepen your prayer life – take one year and read no books except on prayer. Listen to sermons on prayer. Meditate upon Scriptures pertaining to prayer. Go to conferences on prayer. Then you will make more progress in that one year than you would if you read one book on prayer and 15 books on other topics each year for the next thirty years.

It’s the principle of focus.

What do you want to learn this year?
